Our History
The Community Housing Resource
Center is an outcome of eighteen months of intensive
research by the Community Reinvestment Alliance (CRA)
Working Group appointed by the city of Vancouver in 1993.
This research revealed that there is a wide array of home
ownership assistance programs available for low/moderate
income first time homebuyers but unfortunately knowledge of
their availability is not widespread. The principal
recommendation of the CRA Working Group was the formation of
a Housing Center to remove this barrier by facilitating the
process of home ownership through education and counseling
and under a ‘no pressure environment’.

Our young friend can't
believe she has her own room.
But we knew she could do it. |
We have a comprehensive housing
counseling and education program. Our program is designed to
promote homeownership through education and counseling. We
are a unique public/private partnership non-profit organization.
Our partners include the City, County, US Department of Housing
and Urban Development, private foundations, lender foundations,
mortgage companies, title companies, local lenders,
corporations, businesses, appraiser companies, home insurance
companies, Clark County Association of Realtors, Clark County
Home Builders Association, and individual donors.
The Community Housing Resource
Center was one of the top five organizations nationwide to
receive the prestigious Fannie Mae Partners in Housing National
Award in 1996 and 1997. In 1998, the Center also received
special recognition for the third Oregon Governor’s Partnership
Award and several others.
